Making a Difference

Being part of a community is more than just doing business in a zip code. Every year, Raytheon Solipsys sponsors numerous community activities/outreach projects and encourages employees to participate by offering a Day of Service benefit where they can take a day with pay to volunteer.

Attention Any Soldier

Since 2003, Raytheon Solipsys employees have sent items to service members stationed overseas through the Any Soldier (www.anysoldier.com) program. This program is designed to boost the morale of soldiers who do not get mail. Starting in October, we collect items such as magazines, CDs, books, and food to pack up on Veteran’s Day. Employees encourage their families to write letters to put in the packages sent. This has become a great Raytheon Solipsys tradition we are all proud of.

Groundhog Job Shadow Day

Raytheon Solipsys partners with Reservoir High School to provide job shadowing opportunities for students. On February 2, in conjunction with the national initiative of Groundhog Job Shadow Day, the partners kicked off Job Shadowing 2007, endeavoring to host and expose students to the workplace environment.

National Job Shadowing is a coordinated effort of America's Promise, Junior Achievement, the U.S. Department of Labor, the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Education. ING is the national title sponsor of the initiative. The annual initiative, designed to give students the opportunity to "shadow" a workplace mentor, traditionally kicks-off on Groundhog Day.

Involvement with various diversity and scholarship organizations on local college campuses

Besides conducting traditional recruitment activities at local college campuses, Raytheon Solipsys sponsors scholarships, presents informational workshops, and hires interns to reach out to local college organizations. At the University of Maryland, we have delivered workplace transition workshops and participated in resume writing clinics at their Career Center; hired interns, given scholarships, and presented resume writing workshops for the Corporate Scholars program; and hired interns and presented job search strategies workshops for the STAND program. At Towson University, Solipsys participates in a job search strategies class each year through their Business Excellence group. Our focus on preparing college students to join the workforce allows students an easier transition to full time employment, through the work experience, office environment insights, and strategies for a successful job search we provide.
